Continuing the great work underway in Stillwater schools

July 10, 2020

Dear Pony Community,

I would like to take this opportunity to say I am honored, humbled, and very excited to be your Interim Superintendent of Schools during the upcoming school year. Stillwater Area Public Schools is very dear to my heart and I’m looking forward to working and collaborating with each of you this year. In my 13 years in the district I have learned the tradition of excellence that exists is due to the wonderful people of our community and the hard work of our students and staff.

The 2020-21 school year promises to be different than any other school year we’ve experienced. The changes that will take place over the next few months will bring new opportunities to our students and the community. In my first week in this new role I have been able to participate in learning work groups with teachers and administrators from across the district to continue planning for our Smart reStart this fall. I deeply believe in a high quality and comprehensive education for all students. Stillwater is known not only for its academic excellence and extracurricular programs, but also for the positive and healthy relationships between staff, students, families, and the community at large. With all of the continual changes that we will be experiencing during the upcoming months, please remember that we can do this together!

This past spring we accomplished amazing things together to support our students in a time of uncertainty and change. Now we want to build on this positive momentum and continue the great work we’ve been doing. District leaders will work diligently to communicate with families, provide training and resources for our staff, and define our vision for what school will look like in the fall. Our job is to continue to build on all of the good things that are already happening in our district and to provide support structures for all of our students and staff. Kids and learning are at the heart of everything we do. There will be so much for our students to be excited about when they return to us. I know we’ll prioritize building strong and positive relationships with our students and families during this time of change and please know that we here to support you.

Finally, I want to thank Superintendent Denise Pontrelli and Dr. Bob McDowell for establishing many systems of support for all of our students during their time in our district. I wish them the very best in their new ventures.

I look forward to working and collaborating with you, our parents and community, in the coming year. If I can be of any assistance, please contact me at 651-351-8301 or

With great pride,

Malinda Lansfeldt, Interim Superintendent
