MCA Testing Information

March 12, 2018

Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCAs) are scheduled from April 2 - May 4, 2018. MCAs measure our students' growth and proficiency of state standards, meet legislative requirements, and provide feedback on college and career readiness. SAHS students will take MCAs in reading, math and science this spring as required by state legislation.

The results of MCAs are used to create a Minnesota Report Card for SAHS and are therefore an important reflection of our school's academic performance. Please encourage your students to take MCAs seriously and put their best efforts forward on the assessments.

A Minnesota law requires Minnesota State Colleges and Universities to use MCA Scores in making course placements. Consequently, a student’s MCA score could potentially save significant money in college tuition by demonstrating that the student does not need to take non-credit bearing developmental courses. For more information, see the link below.

Please see the following link, MCA Testing Guide for Parents, for information on all policy, procedures, and required timelines, including the process for submitting paperwork to opt a student out of MCA testing, which has a deadline of March 16, 2018. Opt-outs are strongly discouraged, especially since it puts students at a disadvantage in light of the new law mentioned above.

All MCA testing will be administered online. Fully participating in SAHS coursework is the best preparation for MCAs since the state standards are embedded in our curriculum. A link to MCA Item Samplers, designed to help students become familiar with the test, is listed below.
