Assessment Opportunities for Fall--ACT, PreACT & PSAT

ACT: The ACT is a standardized assessment commonly used for college admissions in the United States. Using a multiple choice testing format, the ACT assesses the four academic skill areas of English, mathematics, reading, and science reasoning. A fifth test in the subject of writing requires students to write an essay based on a particular prompt.

SENIORS: The ACT test, originally scheduled for March 2020, has been rescheduled for Tuesday, October 6, 2020. The ACT will be administered onsite at SAHS starting at 8:00 a.m. This is an optional assessment for seniors only, the graduating class of 2021. Students/families may sign up online through SmartSchool at the link below by August 26, 2020. You may register for either of the following two options: 1) The ACT with Writing for a fee of $70, or 2) The ACT w/o Writing for a fee of $55.

JUNIORS, the class of 2022, will be provided the opportunity to take the ACT at SAHS in the spring of 2021. Specific date TBD. There are multiple dates in various locations throughout the year in which students can register to take the ACT as well. Registrations for any other testing dates/times must be done directly through ACT.

PreACT:  The PreACT is a preparatory assessment in the ACT format that provides students with practice for the ACT test and measures of progress towards college readiness as well as a predictive ACT score. SAHS provides the PreACT to all students in tenth grade at no cost to families.

SOPHOMORES: On October 12th (A Day) and 13th (B Day), tenth grade students will take a preACT onsite at SAHS. Students will be excused from class to take this assessment on their assigned A or B day. Students who are taking classes 100% online will be invited to take the assessment on one of the days as well. More detailed information will be shared through Skyward messenger in September.

PSAT/NMSQT:  The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a standardized test administered by the College Board and cosponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation in the United States. It has two sections: Math and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing. The PSAT is not used for college admissions; rather it provides practice for the SAT and National Merit Scholarship Qualification to students taking the assessment during their junior year. Qualifying scores for students are typically in the top half of the top 1%.

JUNIORS & SOPHOMORES may choose to register for the PSAT/NMSQT, which will be offered on onsite at SAHS on Wednesday, October 14, 2020. Only juniors can potentially qualify for National Merit Scholarship honors; sophomores may choose to take the PSAT for practice. This is an optional assessment provided to students at a cost of $17.00. The deadline for registration for the PSAT is October 9, 2020.
