FLEX Time in 2017-18: Presentation for Students and Parents on May 23 at 6:00pm in the Main Forum at Stillwater Area High School

The SAHS 9th Grade Transition Team was comprised of students, parents, and staff. The team met for eight months to design programming and initiatives to support students in a 9-12 high school. One initiative that we would like to share is the implementation a flexible period of time during the school day to provide the components of advisory and enrichment for ALL students in grades 9 - 12. Flex time is the name given to the dedicated and somewhat flexible period designed to create additional time for students as they pursue their individual passions, post-secondary goals and a sense of belonging within Stillwater Area High School. The proposal includes an adult advocate assigned to each student who will loop each year with the group to further develop student-teacher relationships over the four years.  An alternative bell schedule will allow for a period of time for this purpose. Flex time can be designated as “Personalized Planning” for students to develop their personalized learning plan and help orient the 9th and 10th grade students to their new school, as well as allow for more academic support.
