Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE)

Child in Chatterbox Class

The mission of ECSE is to help children with educational disabilities achieve their potential by providing classes to support the unique needs of children with disabilities birth to age 5.

Early Intervention Services for children birth through age 2 consist of district services offered to families who have children with diagnosed disabilities or with medical conditions associated with a high probability of developmental delay.

Early Childhood Special Education services for students ages 3-5 consist of school district educational services offered to families who have children diagnosed with disabilities. Disability areas include developmental delay, speech/language impairment, autism spectrum disorder, developmental cognitive disabilities, emotional or behavioral disorder, physical impairment, hearing impairment, visual impairment, and delays resulting from traumatic brain injuries or other health disabilities.

Services are free to families with children who qualify. If you are concerned about your child’s vision, hearing, moving, talking, play, learning, behaviors, or if they have a medical diagnosis that affects development, services may be available. ECSE also provides inclusive programming at the preschool level for qualifying children. We recognize that the best environment for all children, including those with disabilities, is usually an environment that supports children as they learn and grow together. To that end, many of our classes are integrated. Children with special needs will also have access to physical, occupational, and speech/language therapists in the Early Childhood Family Center.
