School Board Vacancy

On May 2, 2018, Governor Mark Dayton announced that Stillwater School Board Chair Tom Lehmann was being appointed as the District Court Judge in Minnesota’s Tenth Judicial District. Mr. Lehmann will be resigning his position on the School Board after his last meeting on June 21, leaving a vacancy on the Board. Mr. Lehmann was first elected to the School Board in November 2010.

“Tom has been an outstanding board member and leader for our school district,” said Superintendent Denise Pontrelli. “He made decisions based on what was best for all students and all staff, and we will miss his contributions.”

The board vacancy will be filled by an application, interview and appointment process, managed by the remaining board members. Applications for the position were available on the district website beginning on June 22. Applications were due on June 29 by 3 p.m. In July, the Board will review the applications and interview potential candidates. The goal is to have a successor appointed by mid-July and seated by late August.

Members of the community interested in serving as a School Board member are encouraged to consider this important public service opportunity and to review The Role of the School Board and the Serving on the School Board documents posted to the district website.
