Schools closed, Distance learning through May 4

The Governor has ordered all Minnesota schools to remain closed with distance learning in place from March 30 through May 4 to help slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

It is the policy of I.S.D. 834 that staff will not accept or honor requests to withhold emergency care or DNR-DNI orders. I.S.D. 834 staff also will not convey such orders to emergency medical personnel.

Rationale: I.S.D. 834 recognizes that it is serving students with complex health needs. I.S.D. 834 also recognizes that I.S.D. 834 staff may be confronted with requests to withhold emergency care of a student in the event of a life threatening situation at school or school activities or be presented with Do Not Resuscitate/Do Not Intubate (DNR-DNI) orders. The primary mission of I.S.D. 834 is education. DNR-DNI Orders are medical documents. The purpose of this policy is to provide guidance to I.S.D. 834 staff in these situations.
