Policy # R 1.10: Religion In The Schools

Policy Title: Religion In The Schools
Policy Level: R 1.10
Date Approved: Policy Adopted: 12-16-99

It is the policy of I.S.D. 834 to support a climate of academic freedom in which ideas, including those associated with religion, can be discussed in an objective way, for their educational value, with emphasis on their impact on history, literature, art, music, science, ethics and social institutions.

Rationale: I.S.D. 834 values diversity and being inclusive of all. The I.S.D. 834 Statement of Core Values requires that the school environment be honest, respectful, caring and safe and that diversity be recognized, accepted and promoted through inclusive practices. An education is incomplete without knowledge of diverse religions, beliefs and spiritual practices and their impact on history and human contributions in art, social science, music etc.
