Students at Stonebridge Elementary celebrated Earth Day by getting a little dirty. Several classes learned about composting and recycling from the school’s Green Team. Parent Steph Leonard read the story Compost Stew to explain how the process works. She even brought some composting worms for the students to hold.

The Green Team is made up of Stonebridge parents. It was formed this year to encourage students and staff to be environmentally conscious. The school is doing a really good job in the cafeteria. A weigh-in today found a total of only 10.8 pounds of actual trash. The rest of the waste was recyclable or leftover food/drinks that will be given to local farmers to feed their pigs. That’s a waste diversion rate of 93.2%!
