Stillwater students take home the gold at SkillsUSA

Stillwater Area Public School students had a successful showing at the SkillsUSA Minnesota State Championships and Leadership Conference, taking home gold medals in four categories.

Stillwater swept the Employment Application Process competition. Victoria Vogel won gold, Charlie Bristow was awarded silver, and David Edwards earned bronze.

A team made up of Alec Harris, David Edwards and Paris Raleigh won the gold medal in Promotional Bulletin Board, while Stillwater’s 18-21 Transition Program took home gold in Opening and Closing Ceremonies. Team members include Lizzy Backlund, Nikolay Getchell, Casey Engebretson, Rachel Tangen, Paris Raleigh, Alec Harris, and Allison Kazmierczak.

In the Action Skills category, Jonathan McCloud was awarded gold for replacing RAM in a laptop, Lizzi O’Malley earned silver for preparing vegetables for stir-fry, and Allison Kazmierczak won bronze for dog grooming.

The twelve gold medal winners qualify for the National Competition which will take place in Louisville, KY in June.

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. The organization provides educational programs, events and competitions that support career and technical education in the nation’s classrooms. Stillwater has been actively involved with SkillsUSA for five years and has been an official chartered member for the last two. Students from the 18-21 Transition Program have been elected to statewide office for each of the last four years, and enthusiasm for this student organization continues to thrive.
