Sara Damon in Morocco

SAHS social studies teacher Sara Damon has won a national lesson plan competition. She earned first place in the University of Arizona Center for Middle Eastern Studies’ (CMES) 16th annual contest. Damon was recognized for her creative and unique lesson plan related to Morocco. The lesson was created after she traveled to the North African country in Summer 2018. Damon was intrigued by two things her guide discussed with the group while they were in Tangier: the Spanish enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla and Morocco’s Mule Ladies. As the first place winner, Damon received an honorarium for herself and seven books for her classroom or school library. In addition, her lesson is published on the CMES website for teachers throughout the U.S. to access.
