Second and third graders talk weather

October 30, 2019

Students at Lake Elmo Elementary school were talking about hurricanes, blizzards and thunderstorms during a recent visit with meteorologist Belinda Jensen from KARE 11 news. Second and third graders learned all about the science of weather as Jensen shared with them experts from her Bel the Weather Girl series of children’s books. They discovered how hail is formed, and even watched as Jensen created a cloud with hot water and a bag of ice.

“Anyone can be a scientist,” Jensen told the students. “The only thing required is curiosity. If you’re curious bugs, you can be an entomologist. If you’re curious about dinosaurs, you can be a paleontologist. Or, if you’re curious about the weather, you can be a meteorologist - the best kind of scientist of all.”
