Students from the SAHS marketing class swept the Minnesota BestPrep Stock Market Game. Teams from Debbie Drommerhausen's marketing class placed first, second and third in the investment game. About 1,000 teams from across the state competed this spring.

During the 12-week competition, teams received a virtual $100,000 to invest in stocks and mutual funds. Portfolios are updated daily with real-time prices. Teams make trades on the internet using real ticker symbols and watch their portfolio value change with the stock market. Student teams compete by selecting stocks and mutual funds listed on the NASDAQ or NYSE exchanges.

The Stock Market Game is put on by BestPrep, a non-profit business that teaches students' financial literacy and sponsored by Allianz Life. Classrooms receive a volunteer advisor from Allianz Life who give a presentation at the beginning of the session and are available for student questions via email throughout the session.
