Student going National Speech and Debate Association Tournament

Senior Noah Schraut is the first Stillwater Area High School student to qualify for nationals in the National Speech and Debate Association Tournament. Schraut was also named the 2018 Student of the Year by the Minnesota Central Speech District. He will now compete for the National Student of the Year title.

Schraut competes in International Extemporaneous speaking where students are presented with a choice of three questions related to international current events. In 30 minutes, they prepare a seven minute speech answering the selected question. Students may consult articles and evidence they gather prior to the contest, but may not use the Internet during preparation. Schraut is coached by Laura Hammond.
