Lake Elmo students learn about the Little Free Library movement

Author and Little Free Library

Lake Elmo Elementary students had the opportunity to meet the author of a children's book written about Todd Bol, founder of the Little Free Library movement. Todd attended Lake Elmo and graduated from Stillwater High School in 1974. He passed away last year from cancer, but his legacy with the libraries lives on.

Award-winning children’s author Miranda Paul wrote “Little Libraries, Big Heroes”, which tells the story of how Todd began the worldwide, free book exchange that now has more than 90,000 registered Little Free Library book-sharing boxes in 91 countries. She read from the book and told students that they can all be heroes by doing small acts of kindness or helpful things in their community.

Paul was joined by Todd's brother, Tony, who also attended Lake Elmo in the 1960s. He presented the school with it’s own Little Free Library where students can share books and other items with each other. For more photos visit our Facebook page.
