The Stillwater Middle School Lego League team is heading to the state competition! The team is made up of five students from the GATE program: Will Foote, Coolsjes Singhvi, Riddhi Singhvi, Owen Uglem and Wyatt Wolf.

They were selected to advance after strong finishes at the regional and sectional contests where teams were challenged to build an EV3 Robot. They competed in several events, including Innovative Research Project, Robot Design and Programming, Core Values, and three Robot Course Runs.

The team won the Research Project Award for their design of a sustainable park. Students first met Lake Elmo Public Works and then presented ideas to the Lake Elmo Parks Commission. They are hopeful that some of their designs, including a splash pad and solar powered parking lot lights will be used in a future park in Lake Elmo.

They also won the award for innovative architecture for the alligator they created for one of their robot missions and placed second in the course run.

The team will compete against the top 66 teams in the state on February 22.
