Board approves calendar for 2018-2019

November 10, 2017

The 2018-2019 school year will begin the week before Labor Day, and feature staggered starts to provide students transitioning to new buildings with time to familiarize themselves with their new school environments.

View the calendar.

The calendar will also delay the start of the year for all students in grades K-5 by two days. This delay allows time for individual conferences to be held between students and parents and their new teacher. Much like the Ready, Set, Go conferences that took place for kindergarten students this year, the extra two days will also allow first through fifth grade teachers to get to know their students before school begins. During the conferences teachers will begin to build a solid relationship with families, and get to know their students’ strengths and needs through individual reading conferences.

Teachers believe the conferences will help them get to know the individualized needs of their students, allowing them to begin personalize learning from the very first day of school.

The first day of school will be:

  • Aug. 27 for grades 6 and 9
  • Aug. 28 for grades 7, 8, 10-12
  • Aug. 29 for grades K-5: Ready, Set, Go conferences will be held on Aug. 27 and 28
Other key dates include:
  • No school the week of Oct. 15-19
  • Winter break Dec. 24 through Jan. 1
  • Spring break March 11 through March 15
