District demographic report

School board members are currently engaged in discussions regarding its use of district facilities - both short term and long term - in order to best meet the needs of students. Read the full Executive Summary to School Board - Finance, Facility, Enrollment and Demographics Overview

Central to the conversation are demographic projections, which will aid in making facility decision.

A demographic study was prepared by TeamWorks International in the spring of 2018 and highlights the following:

  • New housing developments and births are on the rise in the south, while birth rates are declining in the north.

  • Schools in the southern part of the district are nearing capacity, and continued growth and/or increases in market share will require more space in those schools than is currently available.

The primary purpose of this study is to enable the district to be proactive in long-term facilities and enrollment planning and decision making.

(The changes are on page 46, table 10c. Specifically, there were 396 future single family home units that were included as part of the Brookview attendance area, but actually are in the Lake Elmo attendance area. The table now reflects future developments broken out by both Brookview and Lake Elmo attendance areas. This information is also graphically represented on page 50.)
