Board considers additional cuts for 2019-2020

Board looks to further cut district budget for 2019-2022 (Updated 1/11/19)

School board members have agreed to continue looking for ways to reduce the district’s general fund budget by an additional $1.9 million for 2019-2020.

In late December 2018, the board approved $1.081 million in budget adjustments with the understanding they’d come back in January to consider further reductions in order to balance the budget. (See the approved adjustment list).

At its meeting on Jan. 11, 2019 the board expressed a desire to cut even deeper in order to not only balance the budget, but build back toward the school board’s policy of maintaining a five percent unassigned fund balance.

The board has directed administration to come back at a future meeting (date to be determined) with a list of additional considerations, which could include the following areas:

  • Administration
  • Instructional coaches/professional development
  • Consulting
  • Out-of-state travel and conferences
  • Hiring freeze
