2014 - Chris Shaffer

Chris Shaffer

Chris (Class of 1988) made a name for himself as a leader in the field of meteorology, becoming one of the nation’s first Certified Broadcast Meteorologists. He is a well-known local public figure, and consistently promotes Pony Pride while appearing on WCCO-TV, in daily radio forecasts and flight forecasts for Aamodt's Hot Air Balloon Company in Stillwater, and in written articles for the Star Tribune newspaper.

Despite the demands on his time, Chris dedicates many hours each year teaching weather safety and speaking to students, senior citizens and members of various community groups. He won the prestigious UpperMidwest Regional Emmy Award for Best Weather Anchor and is an active member of the American Meteorological Society. Chris is dedicated to his family and his hometown, often volunteering in classes and at the school district’s annual DaVinci Fest arts and science fair.
