David Ratte

Dave Ratte (Class of 1980) traveled the world with the U.S. Navy. The former nuclear-trained submarine officer served 34 years in uniform. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Ratte was deployed 13 times. He served onboard five nuclear powered submarines, commanding the fast attack boat USSMINNEAPOLIS-SAINT PAUL (SSN-708) and Submarine Squadron 17. In addition, Ratte served on numerous shore duties, gaining an expertise in naval manpower, personnel, training, and education plans and policy development, as well as maintenance and material readiness program management. His final tour in the Navy was at the University of Minnesota as the Commanding Officer of the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps battalion and Professor of Naval Science. Ratte busily volunteers for several local governmental commissions and nonprofit organizations, including the Stillwater Veterans Memorial and Lumberjack Days Parade, while also officiating collegiate and high school cross country and track and field meets.
