Melvin "Buzz" Kriesel

Melvin (Buzz) Kriesel (Class of 1956) had a dream of becoming a soldier. After graduating from high school he hitchhiked to Washington, D.C. to meet with Sen. Hubert Humphrey with hopes of receiving an appointment to West Point Military Academy. His persistence paid off and he went on to have a long and successful career with the Army, serving two combat tours in Vietnam and working with Special Forces, psychological operations and military intelligence. He retired as a full Colonel. Kriesel received numerous awards and honors from the military, including the Stillwell Award for his significant contributions to the field of Psychological Operations. He also served his local communities as leader of the Junior ROTC program and as a frequent speaker at veteran events.
