Dr. Lisa Shafer

Dr. Lisa Shafer (Class of 1991) dedicated her career to finding treatments to stop the degeneration of brain tissue associated with debilitating diseases like Alzheimer’s. Her research has been widely published and she has received grants to support her work from numerous organizations, including the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s disease research. She has been named as an inventor on seven issued patents with many more patent applications under review. She holds a doctorate of philosophy in neurobiology and anatomy from Loyola University and has worked for 3M, Medtronic and most recently, as the Vice President of Pharmaceutical Research and Development for Uphser-Smith, Inc. Shafer serves on various boards, and is active in local charity and fund-raising events for various causes such as breast and prostate cancer, ALS and Alzheimer’s research and awareness.
