Stillwater Area High School to host Special Olympics Minnesota Summer Games

Special Olympics Minnesota announced this week that Stillwater Area High School has been selected to host the 2012 Summer Games June 21-23.  One of six state Special Olympics Minnesota competitions held annually, Summer Games includes gymnastics, track and field, tennis and volleyball. Through the course of the weekend’s activities, the Stillwater community will welcome more than 1,300 athletes, 1,400 volunteers and 500 coaches.

“We are excited by the quality of venues at Stillwater Area High School, as well as the ability to bring more of an all-inclusive and community atmosphere to the event,” said Pam Bergerson, Special Olympics Minnesota Vice President of Sports and Education. “We look forward to building a long-term partnership with the school, community education and the residents and businesses in Stillwater.”

Special Olympics Minnesota offers children and adults with intellectual disabilities year-round sports training and competition. Through Special Olympics’ athletic, health and leadership programs, people with intellectual disabilities transform themselves, their communities and the world.
